Though it took me a few months and sale at HMV, I picked up Common's
Be. I was surprised when Christeen put it
#1 on her list, but now that I have heard the album, I am in full agreement. It is a fantastic album: smooth beats and cool melodies, distinct vocals, and even an appearance by album producer Kanye; it all adds up to legendary. Common is an innovator, and, like Mos Def or The Roots, ensures that hip-hop will always include an alternative to "gangsta" rap. Now, me and Christeen aren't from the 'hood, but we do know music (at least, she does), and I fully agree with her on this one. It's my pick of the month.
